We had nipped in for a drink before The French a couple of weeks ago; starved and cold we had nearly stolen someone's burger from the pass! A trip for Sunday lunch was definitely on the cards. It's situated a stone's throw from Deansgate station, so is the perfect stop off after a day of shopping, or indeed after developing feet like trotters during a cake show...
I had a bag full of cheese bread which had been wafting cruelly all day. I was ready for roast potatoes and a gallon of gravy. We had to decide between lamb, beef and chicken. It was always going to be beef for me, but Vicki was leaning towards the lamb. We did a Yorkshire pud sharing type deal and the decision was made. Paddy and Wayne both opted for beef too. The boys are particularly keen on the Knott because of the impressive range of craft beers offered, but the food is just as good. I was ready for eating my own hand by the time it arrived!
The beef roast came with beautifully crisp garlic roast potatoes, honey parsnips, mash, chantenay carrots, sugar snap peas, crunchy cabbage, a crisp Yorkshire pudding and a pool of tasty gravy. Those parsnips were to die for! Wayne will disagree with me. He thinks parsnips are all kinds of muck, whereas I would happily eat them until I burst! I may have nicked some of his too... (prove it).
Vicki's roast lamb smelled amazing! This came served with the same sides plus half of my Yorkshire pud! You can take the girls out of Horwich...
We were a bit full for pudding. I know. Must try harder! I'm blaming the Bakewell pudding I had at the cake show and the meat and cheese platter I had at Brewdog four hours earlier! Pig of the week strikes again. I was fuming because they had peach crumble on the menu...The Knott Bar are kings of comfort. Nice wooden tables placed next to a 'people-watching friendly' window, a great selection of well considered drinks and a homely Sunday roast. It's nothing mega fancy but is well executed, and at £7.99 we all agreed it's great value too.
