*Cue music* Guess who's back...?
It was a sad day for Manchester the day Almost Famous burnt down. The collective gasp from the burger loving Twitterati was heard as far as Wigan (possibly). Well burger me. Back they have come folks!
We went with our friends Kev and Lucie after what had been a bit of a heinous week. The chilly dining room with a bit of a temporary feel has gone, and like a true phoenix from the flames, has blossomed a beautiful new restaurant. How can I describe it? Well, I'd say flashy but not trashy with a heady mix of 1950s music and a giant gorilla. The nostalgic red baskets and metal tables remain, and the food is just as good as it always was; in fact, I may even suggest it's better. They do say absence makes the heart grow fonder...
Famous Burger - double cheeseburger, stack salad, famous sauce: this is how burgers taste on the west coast of America. I had high hopes for the east coast, but it turns out they are no-where near as good... It may be simple, but you really cannot beat the Famous Burger for something that's dead on the money every time.River Phoenix - double cheeseburger, bacon, bbq fried onions, Frazzles baconnaise, chipotle ketchup, bbq sass, fresh chilli: Kev picked this because he's the king of crisps - and it has Frazzles on it! His only complaint? He could have eaten another...
Chilli Chilli Chilli Cheeseburger - double cheeseburger, smokey beef chilli, chillies, jalapenos, Cholula, iceberg, bleu cheese sauce: the best thing about this burger is the beef chilli. For those of you who enjoyed the Burning Down the house burger at Liquor and Burn, you'll adore this!
Pig and Waffle Fries - waffle fries, pulled pork, redneck bbq, jalapenos, bleu cheese sauce and onions: Go hungry if you've got your sights on these bad boys. Crisp waffle fries smothered in enough sauce to make your doctor nervous.
We were not disappointed by the second coming of Almost Famous. The food was great, staff friendly and the new shiny dining room looks superb. Northern Quarter, watch out - Great Northern is coming for your diners.
