Brunch at Solita, Manchester

Solita, Manchester
I've been a fan of Solita since day one. Ever changing, constantly evolving and riddled with crazy ideas. How Franco has time to come up with these wild schemes is beyond me. A constant stream of new specials, taking their Inka ovens outside for Solita in the Street, one off party nights, new locations and now they're opening for brunch.

Proprietor Franco Sotgiu is a one man machine with every finger in a pie. He runs a string of successful companies, including Chesterfields of England, knives.co.uk, Sausage MakingInka Grills and of course Manchester's beloved Solita. He may have a fancy name, but he's a Bolton lad at heart, and loves his food. Oh yeah, and he keeps chickens. The big softie.

When he announced on Twitter that Solita were to open for brunch, I imaged it to be an extension of the already successful meal-fuelled frenzy that is the standard menu. I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of offer. It would have been too easy to make carbon copies of American diner classics, but instead the chefs at Solita have recreated time honoured favourites with a Manchester twist which caters for all tastes.

We nipped in yesterday to see what was appertaining.

Body Builder's Breakfast - six egg white omelette with charcoal grilled chicken and hot sauce: This was my health conscious husband's choice. A filling, protein rich option with a fiery kick.

Salt Beef Hash - made with Boyko's London brine salt beef: Served with a peppered poached egg and lashings of brown sauce. God I love brown sauce. I ate every scrap other than the egg whites - I find their texture untrustworthy. The perfect winter warmer.

I'm already plotting a trip back to Solita to road test their house waffles with buttermilk fried chicken and the pancakes with lemon and sugar. Next time your timbers are feeling a little shivered, and your nose senses a nip in the air, head to Solita for some soul warming scran.

I'm just waiting for their version of afternoon tea... (gives Franco a virtual nudge...)
